Lisa Hines
Lisa Hines, an Ontario Certified Teacher, has taught Computer Science and math for over 12 years. While her focus is primarily working with high school students, she has worked with children ranging from kindergarten to post-secondary throughout Ontario and Cambodia, in both traditional and extracurricular settings.
Lisa obtained her BMath (Computer Science) from the University of Waterloo, in a joint BEd program with Queen’s University. She also earned her Honour Specialist Certification in Math from Queen’s University. In addition, she recently completed a Masters degree in Clinical Counselling from Tyndale University and is working towards her qualification as a psychotherapist in Ontario.
On top of working with her private students, Lisa runs a Python Coding class as well as Niteo’s Math Transitions program. Lisa has a passion to see all students build confidence and mastery in math and to find the magic of computer programming.
DEVAN SINGH
Devan Singh holds an Honours BSc from McMaster and a Masters of Teaching from OISE. At McMaster Devan became passionate about supporting first year students with the transition to post-secondary education. At OISE, Devan became passionate about equity and mental health in secondary school. He wrote his Master’s Thesis on supporting high school students with mental health problems. Devan has 11 years of tutoring experience working with students of all ages and abilities. As an OCT certified teacher, Devan has been involved in many initiatives supporting students with exceptionalities and English Language Learners. He has also been involved in advocacy for improving available mental health supports in secondary schools. Devan has TRIBES certification as well as Mental Health First AID training.
Laurie Hochman
Laurie has been teaching in various capacities from the age of 16. Laurie is an Ontario Certified Teacher, working with the Toronto District School Board. She has a B.A. (Honours) in English and Philosophy, as well as a Bachelor of Journalism, a Degree in Creative Writing and a Diploma in Special Effects Makeup. She came to teaching after working in the Special Effects industry. Laurie is an avid swimmer and teaches the lifesaving, instructors and first aid courses at a Toronto swim school. During the summer, Laurie works at a sleepover camp, programming engaging and exciting theatre, arts, and camp-wide activities for campers. She brings this positive energy to her Niteo lessons, engaging her students in a fun and interactive way (even in a virtual capacity!)
Marcy Kroach
Marcy Kroach is an experienced educator with a diverse background in education. She earned her BA in Psychology and Math from York University, along with a Design degree from the International Academy of Design & Technology. Marcy furthered her education by obtaining a teaching degree from Canisius College, specializing in Math and Science, and is recognized as an Ontario Certified Teacher.
With over 20 years of teaching experience in both private schools and the TDSB, Marcy has become a respected figure in the field. Her commitment to education is evident through her decade-long tenure with Niteo, where she has been instrumental in shaping the learning experiences of her students. Recently, Marcy has taken on the role of Assistant Director at Niteo, showcasing her dedication to educational leadership.
Having taught classes ranging from elementary to Grade 12, Marcy possesses extensive experience working with students with diverse learning preferences. Her teaching and tutoring approach is tailored to highlight the strengths of her clients, ensuring a positive and effective learning environment.
Melissa West
With over a decade of experience, Melissa is a dedicated educator specializing in science and math. Melissa holds an HBSc in Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences from McMaster University and furthered her education by completing her teaching degree in Melbourne, Australia. Her commitment to education led her to spend seven years teaching overseas in London, UK, where she gained valuable insights into the importance of tracking individual student progress.
Melissa's international teaching experience has equipped her with a deep understanding of the diverse needs of students from various backgrounds. Whether in the classroom or through personalized one-on-one sessions, Melissa is adept at tailoring her approach to meet the unique requirements of each student.
Since October 2020, Melissa has been an integral part of the Niteo teaching team, bringing her passion and enthusiasm for science and math to every lesson. Her wealth of experience and global perspective enhances the learning environment for her students, fostering a supportive and engaging educational experience.
Endre Guljas
Endre Guljas is a fourth-year Aerospace Engineering student at Toronto Metropolitan University. With a deep passion for math and the sciences, Endre discovered his love for teaching during high school. Since then, he has enjoyed tutoring students in a variety of STEM subjects, aiming to share his enthusiasm and inspire others to appreciate the wonders of science and mathematics. Endre believes that the key to excelling in STEM is developing a deep understanding of the foundational concepts before building on them.
His teaching philosophy emphasizes patience, clarity, and personalized learning, helping students grasp challenging material in a way that makes sense to them. He is committed to fostering curiosity and confidence in his students, inspiring them to approach science and math with enthusiasm and a growth mindset.
Nicole Dimas
My name is Nicole Dimas and I teach intermediate math as well as intermediate and senior science. My goal is to foster a deep understanding of these subjects and inspire a love for learning in my students. By creating an engaging and supportive learning environment, I aim to help students build confidence in their abilities and develop critical thinking skills that will serve them well in their future academic journeys.
I have a deep love for teaching because it allows me to inspire curiosity and empower students to reach their full potential. Working with Niteo, enhances this passion by providing innovative tools and personalized strategies that cater to each learner’s unique needs. Together, we create a supportive environment where students can thrive academically and grow in confidence. It’s incredibly rewarding to be part of their learning journey!
In addition to my role as an educator, I’m passionate about being a professor at Brock University, where I enjoy sharing knowledge and engaging with students in a dynamic academic environment. Outside of teaching, I cherish spending time with my friends and family, creating lasting memories together. I also love being active outdoors, especially with my dog, Tucker, by my side. Whether it’s hiking, exploring new trails, or simply enjoying nature, these moments fuel my enthusiasm for life and learning!
Ferdinand Avikpe
Ferdinand is currently pursuing a PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry and a BA in Mathematics from the University of Winnipeg, where he developed a strong foundation in both life sciences and mathematical principles. He teaches Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, and Anatomy and Physiology, and his interdisciplinary expertise allows him to bring unique perspectives to these subjects.
With years of experience as a teaching assistant and tutor, Ferdinand loves working with Niteo because it allows him to connect with students from diverse backgrounds and support their academic journeys in a personalized and meaningful way. He finds it especially rewarding to create an environment where students feel confident asking questions and developing a deeper understanding of the material.
Outside of teaching, Ferdinand is deeply committed to volunteering in healthcare settings and engaging in community outreach initiatives. When not focused on academic or community work, Ferdinand can be found exploring new music or reading up on the latest discoveries in regenerative medicine.
Michael Ko
Michael Ko has been an Ontario Certified Teacher for over 10 years, primarily teaching math and (more recently) cooperative education in the public school system. Michael’s passion for helping students began back in high school, when he helped his classmates with calculus at lunch in exchange for sandwiches. He earned his B.Sc. Hons. in Mathematics from York University, his B.Ed. in teaching Mathematics and Economics from OISE at the University of Toronto, and his M.Sc. in Municipal Planning from the University of Guelph. Michael's teaching qualifications include Honour Specialist certifications in both Mathematics and Business Studies.
Michael is dedicated to helping students achieve their full potential through his work with Niteo Hybrid Learning, where he guides students towards achieving challenging academic goals. His teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that learning is always possible when students invest time and make use of available resources.
